ZipRecruiter Identifies Top Job Markets for 2018 – Burlington, VT is Top Metro in New England

To find the top job markets that hold the most promise for career opportunities in 2018, recruiting site ZipRecruiter looked at their hiring data and other factors including the availability of jobs, industry diversity, unemployment, earnings, and community for 356 metro areas

From that, they named the top ten markets. Interestingly, they are not major cities, but smaller metro areas.  What bring these communities to the top over larger cities are factors such as commute times, community health and walkability.

ZipRecruiter found that the Plains states have the highest-scoring job markets on average, while the lowest-scoring markets are found in the South and West.

Of the 14 metro areas in New England, Burlington VT came out on top at the best market.

ZipRecruiters’ Top ten:

  • Fargo, ND
  • Columbia, MO
  • Oshkosh, WI
  • Honolulu, HI
  • Ames, IA
  • Lincoln, NE
  • Lewiston, ID
  • Des Moines, IA
  • Wausau, WI
  • Minneapolis, MN

In terms of top five industries in each of these cities, only Columbia, Lincoln, Des Moines, and Wausau, were listed for technology or information technology

  • New England – Burlington, VT
  • Mideast – Pittsburgh, PA
  • Great Lakes – Oshkosh, WI
  • Plains – Fargo, ND
  • Southeast – Lexington, KY
  • Southwest – Midland, TX
  • Rocky Mountain – Lewiston, ID
  • West – Honolulu, HI
